A light spot of pressure on her lips.Ī stranger loomed above her. With any luck these points will be fixed and further developed as the series continues. Not a birds-singing, heart-stopping, world-ending sort of kiss. Aurora would grow a backbone and stand up for herself only to retreat and go back to doing what everyone else wanted. The character development in this story was irritatingly slow. While it's easy to understand why she feels so powerless and small when surrounded by people who expected too much of her, it drags on for far too long. This is where the biggest problem in the book lies. At first, she acts like a doormat and lets people walk all over her and force her into a life she never wanted, suffocating her. It shows her shy personality while still conveying her confusion upon waking in a world so different from her own.Īurora is not your typical strong female heroine going out and fighting evil. The book does a great job of capturing her voice and making the character feel realistic. The story is told in first person, following Aurora's point of view. Her descriptions are so well done and detailed that it feels like you are really there. It's lyrical and poetic while still being easy to read and does not cross into prose territory. Thomas' writing style is absolutely gorgeous. Sometimes happily ever after isn't as happy as we thought. With her wedding day drawing closer, Aurora must decide how to save her kingdom: Marry the prince or run. But Aurora has spent her life locked away in a tower and longs for her own freedom.Īs she struggles to find her place in the new world, Aurora begins to fear that there is more to her curse than meets the eye, and it may be just as dangerous as the witch who ensnared her. Now, she is expected to marry a man she hardly knows and restore magic and peace to the kingdom before revolutionaries tear it apart. All the storybooks say she should be living happily ever after with her one true love, but not everything is like the fairytales.Īurora's family is dead, her true love is a stranger, and her whole life has been planned out by others while she slept.
